Tourism makes Uganda a leading hub in East Africa.
Kampala - Arab Economic News
Uganda's tourism industry has successfully transformed itself, positioning the country as East Africa's leading meeting, incentive, conference, and exhibition (MICE) hub.
The Tourism Cooperation Development Project was launched in 2018, with its primary contribution being the establishment of the Uganda Convention Bureau (UCB) under the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).
The UCB, along with government investment in venues such as the Speke Munyonyo Resort, has significantly enhanced Uganda's capacity to host large-scale events, making it a competitive force in the East African MICE market.
Dr. Lily Agarova, CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board, explained the impact of the UTB on the growth of Uganda's MICE sector.
Thanks to the Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship Development Project, the country's MICE sector initiative has succeeded in attracting major international events and driving significant economic growth.
Uganda. MICE provides unprecedented exposure.”
Stephen Asiimwe, Executive Director of the Uganda Private Sector Foundation, highlighted the broader economic impact of the MICE sector, noting that each MICE visitor creates approximately 13 jobs in the entertainment, transportation, and hospitality sectors. Investments in stadiums, hotels, and roads will also have lasting benefits for both the local economy and the tourism sector.
