Uganda launches month-long celebrations for International Museum Day 2025
The Ugandan Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities announced the launch of a month-long celebration of International Museum Day 2025. It will organize a series of events nationwide, culminating in the main celebration in Kabale Municipality on May 18.
This year's theme is "Preserving Heritage, Transforming Communities," emphasizing the role of museums in promoting cultural identity and achieving sustainable development. The government aims to use this occasion to raise awareness of the role of museums in disseminating knowledge about history, culture, the environment, and the arts.
Tourism Uganda explained that it views museums as platforms for cultural exchange, promoting mutual understanding and peace, and contributing to local economies through job creation and educational programs.
The ministry stated that the celebrations will include tour guide training, a national cultural heritage conference, a museum exhibition, heritage competitions for schools, and a familiarization trip, culminating in the main event featuring cultural performances and activities.
